St Christopher car medal: choices and differences

Most of the medals in this collection show St Christopher, the patron saint of travellers and drivers. They differ mainly in size, shape and edge: round with a diameter of 2.3 to 3.6 cm, octagonal, oval, square or even cross-shaped at 4.5 cm. Some have a gold edge, a red or blue edge, a faceted edge or an antique finish. There is also a medal with a stained-glass look.

Several medals carry a German inscription with a wish for the journey, such as “Gute Fahrt” (“safe journey”), “Komm gut heim” (“come home safely”) or “Beschütze mich” (“protect me”). That makes them a lovely little gift for people who are often on the road. If you would like to learn more about the background, read our article St Christopher: why he watches over travellers and pilgrims.

Magnet instead of glue: how to use the medal

Most medals have a magnet on the back. So you place them on a magnetic surface without leaving any adhesive residue, and can take them off again or move them to your next car whenever you like. Check that the spot you want is magnetic before fitting. You will find more details on dimensions and material on the relevant product page.

More than St Christopher

Besides the patron saint of travel there are car medals with Jesus (round or oval, one in olive wood) and with St Benedict. There are also two guardian angel magnets with a baby motif, which are delivered with a velvet pouch and are well suited to the fridge or the magnetic board in the nursery. A single medal in 925 sterling silver is the finest variant. You will find more about guardian angels in the collection Guardian angel.
