Salzburg Madonna with Child – Hand-Carved Wooden Statue from South Tyrol

The Salzburg Madonna with Child is a hand-painted figure of Mary from Val Gardena: Mary stands on a cloud, wrapped in a red robe and a blue cloak, and holds the Child Jesus lovingly in her arm. A figure for the Herrgottswinkel (the traditional crucifix corner), the shelf or the chapel.

The name is the workshop's designation for the model; we do not interpret it further. As a motif, Mary with the Child stands for the Mother of Jesus showing her Son to people – one of the oldest images of the Christian faith.

• Heights: 15 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, 36 cm, 60 cm
• Finish: hand-painted – painted with oil colours, decorated with gold leaf and silver leaf details and fixed with varnish
• Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine

As a gift for a christening or the birth of a child, a Madonna like this is a keepsake that lasts, as it is for a wedding or a move into a new home. The smaller sizes find room on the chest of drawers, while the 60 cm figure needs a plinth or wall ledge of its own.
