The Queen of Peace Madonna is associated with the place of pilgrimage Medjugorje, where Mary is invoked as “Queen of Peace”. One hand rests on her heart, the other is held out in invitation – a gesture of prayer and reconciliation.
Every figure is hand-carved in our partner workshop in Val Gardena (South Tyrol) – production is overseen by master sculptor Karl Demetz. Woodcarving has a long tradition in the Gardena Valley: as early as the 17th century it was widespread there. Every piece is one of a kind: grain, carving marks and painting always turn out a little different.

Motif & meaning
The Queen of Peace Madonna of Medjugorje stands as an image of hope, reconciliation and trust in divine peace. Her posture – one hand on the heart, the other turned towards the viewer – embodies Mary's motherly love and her intercession for the world. She recalls the reported apparitions at Medjugorje, where Mary as Queen of Peace calls the faithful to prayer, conversion and inner peace.
The plain beauty and gentle radiance of the figure make her a symbol of faith and quiet comfort. The inscription “MIR” (Croatian for peace) on the base underlines this message and links it to the spiritual significance of Medjugorje, which has become a place of prayer and hope for many people.
This Madonna speaks through her posture more than through words: she recalls that true peace begins in the heart – in silence, faith and love. As a devotional figure, house Madonna or pilgrimage souvenir, she inspires inner calm and trust in the divine.
Finish, origin & special features
The Queen of Peace Madonna of Medjugorje is made entirely by hand in the Gardena Valley (South Tyrol) – a region known for its long tradition of woodcarving. Under the direction of experienced masters, figures are made there that unite craft precision and spiritual expressiveness.
The wood – usually finely grained lime wood – is carefully selected, dried over months and then cut. The figure is carved from the block of wood in several phases: from the rough carving through the filigree fine carving to the working of details such as hands, drapery and face. The surface is then smoothed, primed (gesso) and coloured.
The figure is hand-painted, with oil paints and soft gold accents.
After painting, each figure is sealed with protective lacquer and subjected to a thorough quality inspection. It may bear the Val Gardena quality seal – a mark of genuine Gardena handwork and verified origin.
Through the union of traditional sculpture, sensitive painting and timeless symbolism, a figure is created that carries the spirit of Medjugorje within it – a work of art of peace and hope, made to last.
