The figure shows Mary at the moment of the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel announces the birth of Jesus to her. The book stands for the Word of God, to which Mary replies with her yes.
Every figure is hand-carved in our partner workshop in Val Gardena (South Tyrol). Woodcarving has a long tradition in the Gardena Valley: as early as the 17th century it was widespread there. Every piece is one of a kind: grain, carving marks and painting always turn out a little different.

Motif & meaning
The depiction of the “Annunciation” recalls one of the central moments in the history of Christian faith: the moment when the angel Gabriel announces the birth of Jesus to Mary. This scene stands for Mary's “yes” to the divine plan and symbolises humility, trust and devotion to faith.
In the artfully carved figure this spiritual depth can be felt. The slightly inclined head, the open book in her hands and the gentle expression give the depiction a quiet dignity. The book stands for the Word of God, to which Mary listens and to which she entrusts herself with an open heart.
This Madonna suits not only as a devotional figure but also as an image of faith and vocation in everyday life. She offers comfort and inspiration in times of decision and is a symbol of inner strength and trust. She is thus a fitting gift for religious occasions such as a christening, Communion, Confirmation or wedding – a lasting sign of faith and hope.
Finish, origin & special features
Each “Mary of the Annunciation” figure is made with careful handwork in the Gardena Valley in South Tyrol – one of the most tradition-rich centres of European woodcarving. From cutting the selected lime wood through the rough and fine carving to the final painting, all steps are done by hand under the direction of experienced master sculptors.
Before working, the wood is gently dried to prevent cracking. After the fine carving the surface is sanded and – depending on the finish – stained, or primed with gesso and hand-painted. The multicolour stained variant brings out warm contrasts, while the coloured finish emphasises the artistic depth of detail through luminous tones.
Every figure is subject to strict quality control before it leaves the studio. The optional Val Gardena quality seal may be enclosed and confirms the authenticity of traditional South Tyrolean craftsmanship.
The combination of centuries-old tradition, artful carving and carefully matched surfaces makes each “Mary of the Annunciation” an authentic one-of-a-kind piece – created to endure.
