The Immacolata with Angel and Crown is a wooden figure of Mary: she wears a crown, one hand rests on her chest, the other is open. Beneath her feet lies a crescent moon, carried by angels’ heads. At up to 68 cm it suits a church or chapel, and in the smaller sizes also the living room.
“Immacolata” means “the Immaculate One” in Italian – it refers to Mary, conceived without original sin. Pope Pius IX proclaimed this dogma of the Immaculate Conception on 8 December 1854 in the bull Ineffabilis Deus. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on the same date and has been documented since the 9th century.
- Heights: 23, 34, 45, 68 cm
- Finishes: natural; hand-painted (painted with oil paints, details in gold leaf and silver leaf, fixed with lacquer)
- Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
Around 8 December many people like to put out a figure of Mary. This one also suits a patronal feast, a parish anniversary or a gift for someone looking for a large Madonna for the chapel. You will find more pieces among the Marian statues.
The Immacolata with Crown also bears the marks of the knife: it was hand-carved in Val Gardena (South Tyrol), so its grain is unique.
