The modern Madonna “Protector in Danger” (“Beschützerin in der Gefahr”) is a figure of Mary in a clear, reduced formal language, carved in wood in Val Gardena. The wood itself takes centre stage: two tones flow into one another, and the figure is slender and without ornament.
“Beschützerin in der Gefahr” is the workshop's model name; it is not documented as a Marian title in its own right, so we do not interpret it. The basic Christian meaning nonetheless applies: Mary is the Mother of Jesus, to whom many people pray in difficult hours. The figure is therefore suited to a sickroom, a home altar or a quiet corner.
- Heights: 17 cm, 25 cm, 30 cm, 50 cm
- Finish: Stained (stain of water and wax, medium wood tone, slightly glossy) or multicolour stained (three stain tones with wax, depending on the motif with gold or silver accents)
- Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
As a gift she suits a christening, the birth of a child or a farewell before a long journey. Because she is kept so plain, she does not look out of place in modern homes either.
