The Madonna of Lourdes stands with folded hands and a long veil on a small rocky base. This wooden statue, model L10363, was made in Val Gardena and is hand-carved and painted after Karl Demetz.
The title “Our Lady of Lourdes” goes back to the apparitions of 1858 in the Massabielle Grotto at Lourdes. The then 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous experienced a total of 18 apparitions there between 11 February and 16 July 1858. 11 February is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. Bernadette was beatified in 1925 and canonised in 1933.
