With mitre, crozier, book and a club in his hand, St Timothy stands before you in this wooden statue. It is hand-carved in Val Gardena and suits people called Timothy or Timo and friends of the early Church.
Timothy was a co-worker of the apostle Paul and the first Bishop of Ephesus. According to tradition he died around 97 as a martyr: at a festival of Diana he was beaten to death with stones and clubs by the enraged crowd. The club is therefore his attribute. His feast day is 26 January.
- Wood type: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
- Dimensions: 12, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 and 100 cm
- Surfaces: Hand-painted, multicolour stained – three stain tones and wax, plus accents in gold or silver depending on the motif, natural (finely sanded, untreated wood)
For the name day on 26 January, shortly after Christmas, the statue brings a piece of early Christianity into your home. Anyone who knows Paul’s letters to Timothy gets a picture to go with a familiar name.
