This wooden statue of Basil depicts a bishop with mitre, staff and book. It is meant for people who bear the name Basil, and for everyone who appreciates the Church Fathers.
This usually means Basil the Great (c. 330 in Caesarea to 1 January 379). He was Metropolitan of Caesarea in Cappadocia, opposed Arianism and is regarded as a Church Father. In 1568 he was declared a Doctor of the Church. The saints' encyclopaedia gives 2 January as his feast day. The statue shows him as a bishop.
- Dimensions: 20 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm, 60 cm and 80 cm
- Finishes: natural, untreated and finely sanded; multicolour stained (three stain tones with wax, with gold or silver accents on details and hems of the robe depending on the motif); hand-painted with oil paints, decorated with gold leaf and silver leaf, fixed with lacquer
- Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
Around the turn of the year, when his feast day and New Year's Day lie close together, the statue is a thoughtful gift. It also looks good on the bookshelf at the end of theology studies.
