With mitre, crozier and book, St Firminus of Uzès stands before you as a wooden statue. He is an unusual patron whom you do not find in every collection – for people who bear the name, for clergy and for connoisseurs of early bishops.
Firminus became Bishop of Uzès in 538 at the age of 22 and died in 553. He took part in the synods of Orléans (541 and 549) and Paris (552). His feast day is 11 October. He is regarded as patron of people with learning disabilities; a statue of him stands in Uzès Cathedral.
- Sizes: seven steps from 12 cm to 100 cm (12, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 and 100 cm)
- Finish: natural (finely sanded, untreated wood); multicolour stained (three stain tones with wax, depending on the motif with gold or silver accents) and hand-painted: oil colours, details in gold leaf and silver leaf, finally fixed with varnish
- Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
Because Firminus took office so young, the statue also suits as a gift for ordination or for an appointment at a young age. On 11 October it is a name-day gift, and for institutions in disability support a quiet sign.
