In this wooden statue St Florinus holds a chalice and a book in his hands, with white blossoms in his arm, in a red robe with a golden hem. The statue is meant for the people of the Vinschgau, the Lower Engadine and everywhere that Florinus is venerated.
Florinus came from Matsch in the Vinschgau and was a priest in Ramosch (Remüs) in the Lower Engadine; he died around 600. According to tradition he gave the Mass wine to a poor woman and topped it up with water, which turned into wine at the altar – hence the chalice. His feast day is 17 November; he is regarded as patron of the Lower Engadine and the Vinschgau.
