Widened ends and a calm outline: that is how you recognise the Byzantine cross on this necklace. The pendant measures approx. 3.2 × 2.0 cm, is carved and weighs approx. 16 g.

Cross forms with widened ends and ornamentation go back to the art of the Eastern Church, that is, to Byzantium. The icons and mosaics of this tradition still shape the look of many churches today. Whoever wears this cross deliberately chooses a form that points beyond the boundaries of the Latin Church.
