The Madonna with Child has been regarded for centuries as one of the central symbols of the Christian faith. She stands for love, security and the unshakeable trust between mother and child. In the Mauch Madonna this motif is interpreted with particular sensitivity: Mary wears the crown of the Queen of Heaven, yet her gaze rests gently and humbly on the Child Jesus, who holds the orb with cross in his hands – an image of redemption and divine care.
The composition joins classical Baroque forms with quiet inwardness. The fall of the cloak's drapery follows a natural rhythm that lets the light glide softly over the figure. The delicate faces and harmonious proportions radiate peace and protection – qualities that make this figure a popular companion in home chapels, living rooms and church institutions.
As a gift, too, the Mauch Madonna carries a deep symbolic meaning. She accompanies milestones in life such as a christening, Communion, a wedding or a house blessing and conveys lasting values such as trust, devotion and spiritual warmth. Every Mauch Madonna is made in the workshops of Demi Art S.r.l. in the South Tyrolean Gardena Valley (Val Gardena) – one of the most tradition-rich centres of European woodcarving. Under the artistic direction of master sculptor Karl Demetz, each figure is made purely by hand: from cutting the selected lime wood through the rough and fine carving to careful sanding and the final surface treatment.
Depending on the chosen finish, the Madonna is then stained in several colours or gilded. The genuine gold leaf variant gets its warm radiance from multi-layer gilding techniques. Every surface is sealed with a fine protective lacquer to preserve the structure of the wood permanently.
The Gardena Valley has been known for centuries for its woodcarving tradition – knowledge that has been handed down over time. Demi Art combines this inherited skill with the highest craft precision and a sense of artistic balance.
Depending on the series, the Mauch Madonna may bear the Val Gardena quality seal, which stands for authentic origin, verified quality and genuine handwork. As a single piece or collector's figure it expresses South Tyrolean craft culture – a lasting testimony to faith, art and tradition.
