The Holy Hermit is a hand-carved wooden statue: a bearded man in a long robe and cloak, in his hand a staff with a double cross and a small bell, a rosary at his belt and an animal at his feet. You can see the stillness that belongs to his life.
The statue is not assigned to a particular saint; it stands for the type of the hermit. The first Christian hermits were the Desert Fathers in the 3rd century, whose life consisted of prayer, asceticism and penance. Since 1983 canon law, too, has expressly recognised the life of a hermit (can. 603). If you are looking for a particular name-day patron, you will find him among thesaint statues from the workshop.
