St Wulfram (Wolfram) stands before you as a bishop with mitre, crozier and book, hand-carved in Val Gardena. The statue is aimed at people with the name Wolfram and at lovers of saints from the early Middle Ages.
This usually means Wolfram, also called Wulfram, of Sens. In 674 he became Archbishop of Sens, later withdrew to the monastery of Fontenelle and worked as a missionary in Frisia. He lived from about 650 to 695. In art he is shown baptising a new convert. His feast day is given differently in the sources; we therefore do not name a fixed date here.
- Material: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
- Sizes: 12, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 and 100 cm
- Surfaces: Hand-painted: oil paints and lacquer, details in gold leaf and silver leaf, multicolour stained: stain in three tones, waxed, with gold or silver accents on details and hems depending on the motif, natural
A Wolfram does not often receive a saint with his name as a gift – so for a birthday or Confirmation this is a surprise. The statue can also be a christening gift, because Wolfram himself is shown as a baptiser.
