Description & details

The 15 cm Tyrolean crucifix is a small wooden cross with a corpus for use at home. Christ hangs with his head slightly bowed on a plain beam cross, a white cloth falls from the hips, and the sign bears the letters INRI. The cross itself stays in a brown wood tone.

“Tiroler Kruzifix” (Tyrolean crucifix) is the workshop's designation; no particular historical model can be documented. We therefore describe only the form. The crucifix keeps the memory of Jesus' Passion alive and is regarded by many believers as a sign of redemption.

  • Finish: Hand-painted, with oil colours and small details in gold leaf and silver leaf, fixed with lacquer
  • Wood: mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine, from the Val Gardena valley

Thanks to its small format, this crucifix is easy to give: for Confirmation, for a student room, or in the luggage of someone who wants to take a piece of home with them. If you would like it smaller still, thesmaller Tyrolean crucifix is a close relative.

The cross is made by hand in Val Gardena, which is why no two are alike. It will be with you after approx. 3–4 weeks; we deliver insured from South Tyrol, to Germany and Austria only, for €6.90.
