Crucifixion Group with Thief and Magdalene – from South Tyrol

Three crosses stand on a curved base, the Crucified One in the middle and the two crucified with him on either side. In front of them are three figures: two standing and one kneeling. This crucifixion group is hand-carved and painted in Val Gardena, a large image for the Herrgottswinkel (the traditional crucifix corner) or the chapel.

The kneeling figure is Mary Magdalene, who often appears in crucifixion groups as an addition to Mary and John. The group also includes the two thieves, as the Passion tradition knows them. It is the richest in figures of the crucifixion groups with thieves in this range.
