  • Material: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
  • Hand-carved in South Tyrol (Val Gardena), each piece unique
Description & details

This wooden bishop statue depicts St Helmstan: mitre, staff in the raised arm, a book in his hand. A rare name that few workshops carve – so a statue for collectors and for everyone who bears it.

Little is handed down about Helmstan. He was Bishop of Winchester in England and died around 850 in Winchester. His feast day is 29 March. The book in his hand is a design detail of this statue; as an identifying mark of the saint it is not attested.

  • Sizes: 12 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm, 60 cm, 80 cm, 100 cm
  • Finishes: Natural (untreated, finely sanded); Multicolour stained; hems depending on the motif with gold or silver accents; Hand-painted (oil paints; details in gold leaf and silver leaf)
  • Wood: Wood from the Val Gardena valley (mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine)

Because hardly anyone bears the name, Helmstan makes a special gift: for the name day on 29 March, or for friends of England who wish to link their path to the faith with a piece of South Tyrolean craftsmanship.

The piece was hand-carved in Val Gardena (South Tyrol) and is one of a kind. You will receive it after approx. 4–5 weeks, insured via UPS from our warehouse in Flieden; it is delivered to all delivery countries, the cost is €6.90. Every piece is blessed by a Catholic priest in our warehouse in Flieden and comes with a certificate card (date of the blessing). More statues can be found among the Holy Men. Male saints.
