According to legend, a stag with a shining cross in its antlers appeared to the hunter Hubert, whereupon he changed his life and later became Bishop of Liège. He is the patron saint of hunters; his feast day is 3 November.
Every figure is hand-carved in our partner workshop in Val Gardena (South Tyrol). Woodcarving has a long tradition in the Gardena Valley: as early as the 17th century it was widespread there. Every piece is one of a kind: grain, carving marks and painting always turn out a little different.

Motif & meaning
St Hubert is one of the best-known patron saints of hunters and has been linked for centuries with the impressive motif of the stag with the radiant cross. This image refers to Hubert's traditional conversion experience and stands as an emblem of inner reflection, guidance and responsible treatment of nature. The depiction joins dignity and humility: the stag looks powerful and peaceful at once, while the figure of the saint lingers in a calm posture that invites contemplation.
The motif finds favour in private living rooms, hunting rooms, chapels and places of devotion alike. The statue takes on particular meaning on religious feast days, at blessings or as a gift of gratitude. Many collectors value the iconographic clarity and the timeless symbolism, which make the work both a spiritually inspired art object and a culturally rooted sign of attachment to tradition and faith.
Finish, origin & special features
The statue of St Hubert is made by careful hand craftsmanship in Val Gardena, South Tyrol, a region that has been known for centuries for its demanding woodcarving. Every working step – from the selection and drying of the wood through the rough and fine cut to painting or gilding – is carried out by experienced wood sculptors. The fine structure of lime wood allows precise rendering of facial features, fur areas and robe details, while for larger formats glued wood blocks can be used to minimise internal tension.
Depending on the finish, the statue receives different surface characters: the natural version shows the wood in its pure form. Stained and multicolour stained finishes emphasise structure and form with warm tints. The painted variants are worked individually by hand and give the work a lively, classic look. The gilding is of particularly high quality: the genuine gold finish uses gold leaf, while the antique genuine gold variant is additionally based on a traditional gesso layer and shows a fine craquelé that recalls historic sacred art.
All statues go through a strict final inspection and – depending on the series – may carry the Val Gardena quality seal. The combination of craft precision, regional tradition and a wide choice of finishes makes the Hubert statue a characterful object for devotion, collecting and high-quality home furnishing.
