In the Catholic tradition, St Christopher is venerated as the patron saint of travellers. According to legend, he carried the Christ Child safely through a raging river – hence the image that many people carry with them on car keys, dashboards and rucksacks. The embossing on this pendant shows him in the classic depiction and reminds you, whenever you reach for your keys, that you are carried on your way. For many he is a quiet companion who expresses trust without many words.
The keyring is made of silver-coloured metal with a richly detailed embossing. At 3.5 cm in diameter the medal is easy to recognise yet still handy enough for a trouser pocket, and the sturdy key ring sits firmly on the bunch of keys. According to the manufacturer, the pendant comes from Italy. Before dispatch it is blessed by a Catholic priest, and a business-card-sized certificate showing the date of the blessing is enclosed. In the velvet pouch it is ready to give straight away – whether for passing the driving test, a birthday or as a farewell greeting before a journey.
