The Romanesque crucifix is a hand-carved wall cross with a corpus from Val Gardena. It takes up the formal language of early church art and suits chapels, parish rooms and homes where a crucifix is meant to have a dignified, fixed place.
Romanesque crucifixes usually show Christ not as a sufferer but as a living victor over death, in triumph. The body does not hang limply on the cross but stands rather upright, the eyes are open. This conception distinguishes them from later Gothic crucifixes.
- Sizes: 30 cm, 36 cm
- Finish: Genuine gold leaf (gilded with real gold leaf and then painted) or antique genuine gold leaf (fine craquelure surface, looks like an old original)
- Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
The gilded version is for special places: the sanctuary, a small house chapel, or a place of honour for an ordination, a service jubilee or a golden wedding anniversary. If you prefer something more restrained, choose the antique finish.
