Description & details

The Paimpont crucifix is a figure of Christ on a wooden cross, hand-carved in Val Gardena. It comes in four sizes, from a small cross for the bedside table to a large wall cross for a hallway or chapel.

Paimpont is a place in Brittany. Which original this figure is based on cannot reliably be documented; the name comes from the workshop. The heart of it is the cross itself, which for Christians recalls the death of Jesus and is regarded as a sign of redemption.

  • Sizes: 12.5 cm, 17 cm, 25 cm, 50 cm
  • Finish: stained (stain of water and wax in a medium wood tone, slightly glossy) or multicolour stained (three stain tones with wax, depending on the motif with gold or silver accents)
  • Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine

The multicolour stain sets accents on details and hems of garments, while the simple stain holds back. Both leave the wood structure visible. The crucifix is fitting for a christening, for Confirmation or as a memento of a pilgrimage.
