Modern Christ on Cross with Holes – Wooden Cross from South Tyrol

This modern wooden crucifix shows Christ on a cross whose beams are pierced by long slits. The openings lie in the arms and in the upright; the wall shows through behind the figure. Everything is kept in light, untreated wood.

The “holes” in the name are the cut-out slits that make the cross lighter. This is a design by the workshop, and we read no more meaning into it. Like every crucifix, it recalls the death of Jesus and is venerated by believers as a sign of redemption.
