This Marian necklace carries the Miraculous Medal in a gold-coloured finish: an embossed pendant with a richly detailed relief of the Virgin Mary on a long stainless steel chain. A necklace you can wear every day – visible over a jumper or quietly beneath a shirt.
The Miraculous Medal goes back to Sister Catherine Labouré, who reported Marian apparitions in Paris in 1830; from 1832 the medal was struck. Its classic image shows Mary with open hands and the inscription “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”. It gained its name because reports of answered prayers soon spread. It is a sign of trust in Mary's intercession, not a promise of protection. It is celebrated on 27 November.
