Decorated Cross – Hand-Carved Wooden Cross from South Tyrol

This decorated cross ends at all four beams in small trefoils, which give the wooden cross without a corpus its form and rhythm. A dark border frames the lighter surface. The cross is carved in Val Gardena and painted by hand.

For Christians, the cross stands as a sign of faith and redemption. Trefoil ends are an old ornamental form in church art. Here they make the cross more festive without showing the crucified Christ. If you would like a corpus, take a look at thecrucifixes and Christ figures.

• Finish: Hand-painted – oil colours, gold leaf and silver leaf details, fixed with lacquer
• Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine

The smallest size hangs above a bed or in the kitchen, while the largest cross at 140 cm fits into a church or a stairwell. It suits First Holy Communion, a wedding or a gift for a new home.
