Crucifixion Group – Hand-Carved in South Tyrol

The Crucifixion group unites Christ on the cross with two figures at its foot: a woman with a veil and a man in a robe. The cross has clover-leaf ends, and the scene stands on a rock base with a wooden plate. Made in Val Gardena and painted by hand, for the Herrgottswinkel (crucifix corner), the chapel or the church.

A Crucifixion group shows the Crucifixion with people at the cross, usually Mary and the Apostle John, following the Gospel of John. The two figures at the foot of this group are generally understood in that way. Anyone who wants to extend the scene will find variants with the two thieves or the kneeling Mary Magdalene.
