Cross Panel – Hand-Carved Wooden Cross from South Tyrol

The cross panel is a wall cross without a corpus: a rectangular wooden panel with the cross cut out as an opening. The surface looks slightly rippled, like softly falling cloth, and lets the cross in the centre stand out clearly. Hand-carved in Val Gardena.

For Christians the cross is a sign of faith and redemption. Here it is deliberately kept simple, without a figure and without ornament: the eye goes to the form alone.
