Christ in the Storm – Hand-Carved in South Tyrol

Here is a crucifix that breaks with the usual: the crucified Christ lies before a background carved as if in motion, of long, wave-like bands that sweep across the cross. Golden edges frame the beams. The relief is made by hand in Val Gardena, a piece for modern rooms.

The name Christ in the Storm is a model name used by the workshop. We do not interpret it but describe what you see: the body of Christ on the cross, surrounded by moving forms. For Christians the cross remains a sign of faith and redemption, here in a restless, contemporary language.

• Finish: Hand-painted – oil colours, gold leaf and silver leaf details, fixed with lacquer
• Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine

The crucifix suits living spaces with plain furnishings as well as parish halls, hospital chapels or counselling rooms. As a gift for a wedding, a house move or an anniversary, it is unconventional but calm enough not to be pushy.
