St Rudolf of Gubbio stands before you as a bishop with mitre, crozier and book, carved in wood and worked by hand in Val Gardena. The statue is aimed at people with the name Rudolf and at friends of lesser-known saints.
Rudolf lived as a Benedictine monk and around 1062 became Bishop of Gubbio in Umbria. He was born around 1032 and died on 26 June, probably in 1064. His feast day is 26 June. No well-known patronage is handed down for him; the statue therefore shows him in the plain form of a bishop.
- Material: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
- Sizes: 12, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 and 100 cm
- Surfaces: Hand-painted – painted with oil paints, decorated with gold leaf and silver leaf, fixed with lacquer; multicolour stained – three stain tones and wax, plus accents in gold or silver depending on the motif; natural – untreated and finely sanded
It suits the name day on 26 June well. A Rudolf will probably be glad to have a saint with his name keeping him company on the shelf or the windowsill – and the statue takes up little space, too.
