This mini saint figurine shows St Anthony with the Child Jesus in his arms, in a Franciscan habit. It is only 3 cm tall and fits into a pocket or purse, or onto the dashboard.
Anthony was born around 1195 in Lisbon, joined the Franciscans and died on 13 June 1231 near Padua. That he is shown with the Child goes back to a tradition: according to legend, the Child Jesus appeared to him. In popular devotion he is called upon when something has been lost – this too rests on a legend. You will find more about him in theLexicon article on St Anthony of Padua.
