Guardian Angel Picture 12×17 cm – “Angel with Lantern Watches Over Sleeping Baby”

An angel holds a lantern and watches over a sleeping baby: this guardian angel picture in 12 × 17 cm is the motif for the first weeks with a newborn, when parents get up at night to check on their child.

The light of the lantern gives the picture its calm. It stands for the watch the angel keeps in the night while everyone else sleeps. Depictions of the guardian angel traditionally also show the angel as the guardian of a sleeping child; the picture is an artistic interpretation, not an account of events. The Church has celebrated the Holy Guardian Angels in the Roman calendar since the 17th century.
