For couples who have long carried their keys on the same ring: this keyring shows St Valentine, patron saint of lovers and engaged couples. The relief is silver-coloured and embossed on both sides, and the pendant was made in Germany.
Little is certain about Valentine. Tradition knows a priest in Rome and a bishop of Terni, who may later have merged into one person. Both are said to have died as martyrs in the 3rd century, on 14 February. The reverse carries the German inscription “IN CHRISTUS VERBUNDEN DURCH DIE GNADE DER LIEBE” (“united in Christ through the grace of love”). More in theLexicon entry on St Valentine.
