The figure shows St Robert as a man of the Church with staff, book and a model of a church – signs of a founder who built up a community. One well-known example is Robert of Molesme, whose founding of the monastery of Cîteaux led to the Cistercian Order.
Every figure is hand-carved in our partner workshop in Val Gardena (South Tyrol). Woodcarving has a long tradition in the Gardena Valley: as early as the 17th century it was widespread there. Every piece is one of a kind: grain, carving marks and painting always turn out a little different.

Motif & meaning
The depiction of St Robert shows him as a spiritual teacher who, through the book, the staff and the small church at his side, is recognisable as guardian of the Word and shaper of church life. The open book stands for the passing on of the faith, while the small church symbolically points to his work as builder and preserver of church community. In the calm posture and mild gaze, a spiritual serenity is expressed that conveys orientation and trust.
This figure is particularly suited to places where spiritual reflection and quiet devotion play a role. In chapels, prayer corners or deliberately designed living areas it recalls that faith and community must be continually nurtured and sustained. The symbolism of the saint also makes the figure a valuable gift for occasions such as sacraments, name days or jubilees, where a sign of spiritual connection is wanted.
Finish, origin & special features
The figure of St Robert is made entirely in Val Gardena/South Tyrol, a region in which traditional woodcarving has been practised for generations. Production begins with the selection of high-quality lime wood, whose fine structure is particularly well suited to detailed carving. After drying comes the precise cutting of the blank. The rough carving defines the basic form, while the fine carving works out characteristic features such as facial features, folds of the robe, book, staff and the small church. Each of these steps is done in careful handwork.
In the natural finish the figure shows the pure wood grain and highlights the sculptural formal language. The coloured version is traditionally painted with oil paints; gold accents set liturgical elements subtly in scene and underline the significance of the saint. Depending on the version, the surface is finally sealed to protect colour and structure permanently. Depending on the series, the figure may bear the Val Gardena quality seal.
The manual production creates slight variations in grain, nuance and expression that make every figure a unique piece. The fine detail work, the combination of traditional technique and artistic precision, and the clear spiritual symbolism give the work its special character.
