The Immacolata depicts Mary as conceived without original sin; her solemnity is 8 December. The lily stands for purity – a festive image of Mary for church and home.
Every figure is hand-carved in our partner workshop in Val Gardena (South Tyrol) – production is overseen by master sculptor Karl Demetz. Woodcarving has a long tradition in the Gardena Valley: as early as the 17th century it was widespread there. Every piece is one of a kind: grain, carving marks and painting always turn out a little different.

Motif & meaning
The Madonna Immacolata, also “Mary of the Immaculate Conception”, symbolises purity, grace and the divine light conceived without original sin. In this depiction Mary holds a lily in her hand – for centuries the sign of her spotless purity and fidelity. Her gaze is humbly lowered, and her robe unfolds in soft lines that recall Baroque lightness and at the same time convey quiet dignity.
Here the lily joins with the figure to form a visible embodiment of faith in what is good and pure in human beings. In churches and rooms for devotion it recalls the Annunciation and God's love for humankind.
As a gift, the Madonna Immacolata is especially valued at religious feasts – such as a christening, Communion or wedding – because it stands for protection, purity and grace. In private rooms, too, it has a peaceful presence that turns heart and gaze to what is essential.
Finish, origin & special features
The Madonna Immacolata with Lily is carved entirely by hand by Demi Art S.r.l. in Santa Cristina in the South Tyrolean Gardena Valley. Under the artistic direction of master sculptor Karl Demetz, each piece is made in the finest Gardena tradition – from the selection of the lime wood to the last brushstroke.
The production process follows centuries-old craft: the wood is carefully dried, cut and worked by hand in several steps – from the rough carving through the fine carving to sanding. Depending on the finish, priming (gesso) and painting with oil paints follow. The genuine gold leaf variant is gilded with gold leaf in the traditional technique.
The preferred material is lime wood, which offers ideal conditions for filigree detail thanks to its fine, even structure. For larger figures, Swiss stone pine or maple may also be used.
Several finishes are available: natural (sanded), multicolour stained, coloured (hand-painted) and genuine gold leaf. Each surface emphasises the character of the figure in its own way – from plain naturalness to solemnly glowing gilding.
Depending on the series, the Madonna Immacolata with Lily may bear the Val Gardena quality seal, which stands for verified origin and masterly handwork. Every figure is an unmistakable one-of-a-kind piece – made with devotion, precision and a deep attachment to South Tyrolean woodcarving.
