Tyrolean Crucifix, 13 cm – Hand-Carved Wooden Cross from South Tyrol

This 13 cm Tyrolean crucifix is a small wall cross with a corpus that can also be laid on a shelf or bedside table. Christ is carved with a narrow, serious expression, the arms rest on the crossbeam, and the INRI sign sits above. A white cloth drapes around the hips.

As with the other Tyrolean crucifixes, the name is a designation by the workshop; there is no documented historical model. In return, the form is familiar and plain. The crucifix points to Jesus' death on the cross and reminds believers of redemption.
