The wooden statue of St Charles Borromeo shows the saint with a crucifix in his hand, turning towards a person kneeling before him. Hand-carved in Val Gardena, a statue for everyone who works in pastoral care, and for every Charles who would like to have his name-day patron at home.
Charles Borromeo was born on 2 October 1538 in Arona and from 1564 was Archbishop of Milan and a cardinal. After the Council of Trent he drove forward the renewal of the Church and founded seminaries. He was canonised in 1610. His feast day is 4 November, which is also the name day for Charles. He is regarded as patron saint of pastoral workers, catechists and seminarians.
