The group Family at the Wayside Cross shows a couple, each with a child on their lap, on a bench in front of a small wayside cross with a roof. The scene is hand-carved in Val Gardena. It is a gift for families who are familiar with wayside crosses.
A wayside cross, also called a field cross, stands by a path, a road, the edge of a field or in the forest. It serves as a sign of popular devotion, in memory of events or of the departed, and as a waymarker. This group brings that image into the living room: people lingering at the cross on their rest. What the group means in detail is not fixed by the workshop.
- Sizes: 30 and 48 cm
- Finishes: natural: finely sanded wood without treatment; hand-painted: oil colours, gold leaf and silver leaf details, fixed with lacquer
- Wood: wood from the Gardena Valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine
As a gift for a wedding, a christening or moving into a home of your own, it speaks of family and faith without being loud. It is also worth considering for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.
The Family at the Wayside Cross leaves the workshop in South Tyrol and is with you approx. 3–4 weeks after you order. Shipping is insured, goes to Germany and Austria only and costs €6.90. Because wood and colour are never quite the same, every group is one of a kind.
