The Christ relief is a wall crucifix in a slender form that widens slightly towards the top. The crucified Christ stands in a diamond-shaped opening, and at the top the sign carries the letters INRI. The surface looks as if hammered, and the figure is carved by hand in Val Gardena.
The name Christ Relief is a designation used by the workshop, so we describe only the form. A relief is worked flat and hung on the wall, as distinct from a free-standing figure. The crucifix shows the crucified Christ and is regarded by Christians as a sign of faith and redemption.
