The statue is carved in Val Gardena and painted by hand.

According to legend, Dismas is the penitent thief to whom, according to the Gospel of Luke, paradise was promised. In the Gospel the man remains nameless; the name Dismas comes from later tradition. His feast day is 25 March in the Western Church and 23 March in the Eastern Church. He is patron saint of, among others, those condemned to death and of carters. One legend tells that he helped the Holy Family on the flight into Egypt.

Heights: 12 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm

Finishes: hand-painted – painted with oil colours, decorated with gold leaf and silver leaf, fixed with lacquer

Wood: wood from the Val Gardena valley – mainly lime wood, depending on size also maple or Swiss stone pine

Anyone who works in prison chaplaincy or accompanies people seeking a new beginning will find in Dismas an eloquent sign of remorse and hope.
